Improve your Spoken English

With the advance of technology and the advent of internet era, English language skills have started playing an important role in the campus selection processes. Organizations are keenly looking at how comfortable the employee is with English language. Hence, it is of importance for the candidates to possess a good command over English language.

With some training and effort a person can easily master the English language. Learning language is easy if we can try to expose ourselves to the language for an hour or two every day.  Given below are some tips to better your English language.

  • Ask your friend, relative or brother/sister to help speak in English: for 30 minutes every day, discuss on a current topic. You can take simple topics like education, unemployment, importance of English language etc. Make sure you speak only in English. (Even if you commit grammar mistakes)
  • Listen to English discussions or English news (not visual like documentaries). Your focus should be on spoken language, understanding the key points and words and how they are pronounced.
  • Active reading for 30 minutes daily would help, but it should be done with the purpose of understanding the usage of the words and formation of sentences. It is better if the reading material has dialogues and conversations.
  • Watch English movies whenever time permits and try listening to English songs.
  • Keep an English-English dictionary always with you like Cambridge, Webster’s or Oxford. Always try to look up the new words that you encounter.
  • Buy an English Grammar book, Murphy’s English Grammar or Wren & Martin (High School Grammar). Understand the logic of English Grammar.
  • Try speaking on a topic and recording it, you will know how you sound. It will help neutralize your accent.

If these tips are too much to follow, then join a Spoken English class, where you can interact with at least 5-6 people in English language. Spoken English classes would help give you the required exposure.
