IELTS is conducted by the Cambridge University & British
Council. IELTS is designed to test the English language
proficiency of the candidates who intend to study or work
abroad in English speaking countries like Australia, UK,
Canada etc.
There are two types of IELTS exams, Academic IELTS and General
IELTS.
The Academic IELTS is taken mostly by people who intend to go
to these countries for pursuing higher studies. where as the
General IELTS is taken by people who are going for Work.
(some companies may also prefer Academic IELTS)
The testing pattern for both these exams are same, but
Academic IELTS is a much more tougher exam compared to
General IELTS. The scores for both the exams are out of
total score of 9. It is also possible to get 1/2 scores like
5.5 etc.
There are four sections in both Academic IELTS and General
IELTS,

Listening (4 sections, 40 questions, 30 minutes )

Speaking (Interview, 15 minutes )

Reading (Different for Academic & General Training
- 3 sections, 40 questions, 60 minutes)

Writing (Different for Academic &
General Training - 2 pieces of writing, 60 minutes)
IELTS test is administered by recognized test centers across
the world and there exists more than 300 centers, in
approximately 120 countries. The tests are conducted every
month and the registration can be done even 24 hours before
the exam at these centers subject to availability of seats.
The registration fees is 90 GBP to be paid in local
currency. The scores obtained are valid for two years.
